How to prepare for a faeces test
- Obtain a container from your doctor or nearest Aotea Pathology rooms .
- Place a clean ice‐cream container or similar in the toilet or make a raft of toilet paper in the pan.
- Ensure that no urine or water contaminates the faeces.
- Use the scoop attached to the lid of the container and collect scoopfuls of faeces from the surface of the specimen to half fill the container.
- Securely fasten the lid and label the container with your name, date of birth and date and time of collection.
- Place the specimen in the plastic bag with the request form from your doctor.
- Take the specimen to your doctor or nearest Aotea Pathology rooms.
- Specimen may be kept in a refrigerator overnight.
